RUDIS jointly with MHPS construct the Flue Gas Desulphurization Plant in the Ugljevik TPP

On July 11th, 2016 the Consortium MHPS – MHPS-E – RUDIS signed with the Client RITE Ugljevik the Contract for construction of the Flue Gas Desulphurization Plant in the 300 MW Ugljevik Thermal Power Plant

The construction of the Flue Gas Desulphurization Plant in the amount of 79.2 million euros is one of the greatest investments in the Ugljevik TPP since its construction. The Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining of the Republic of Srpska, Petar Đokić, who attended the ceremony, pointed out that it is a strategic project for Elektroprivreda RS (Power Utility of the Republic of Srpska), which is important both for protection of the health of the population and for the stability of the energy sector.   RITE is the largest electricity producer in the Republic of Srpska, and by constructing the Flue Gas Desulphurization Plant the life span of the Ugljevik Thermal Power Plant will be extended by 25 years.   For financing of the project implementation the Government of Bosnia and Herzegovina already in the year 2009 signed the Loan Agreement with the Japanese financial institution Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for a 30-year loan.

The flue gas desulphurization will take place on the basis of wet calcite process which is distinguished by a high reliability and efficiency and is the most widespread technology for reduction of the emissions of sulphur oxides from large-scale thermal power plants. In the process the adequately prepared limestone is used as an additive.   The by-product of the wet process is gypsum, which is not harmful to the environment and can also be used for commercial purposes in the building industry.   The construction of the project will be carried out for 35 months, and the SO2 content upon flue gas treatment will be less than 200 mg/Nm3.
