RUDIS RETROFITTED A BATTERY ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEM TO ITS SOLAR POWER PLANT BLATE
RUDIS improved the efficiency of the solar power plant Blate nad Hrastnikom with the battery energy storage system
RUDIS added a battery energy storage system (BESS) to its solar power plant Blate with rating of 1,5 MW. BESS has an output of 1,6 MW and storage capacity of 3 MWh and it increased the flexibility and stability of the system and improved the economics of the power plant's operation.
RUDIS successfully connected its first solar power plant in Slovenia to the electrical grid in July 2022. Solar power plant Blate has ground-mounted solar panels and annually produces approximately 1.670 MWh of electrical energy, which is fully transmitted to the electrical grid. It is one of the larger solar power plants in the country with its rating of 1,5 MW(p).
The upgrade of the advanced battery energy storage system in 2024, supplied by China's Cubenergy, one of the world's leading manufacturers of battery systems, enables more dynamic and flexible power management at the SE Blate solar power plant site. The BESS is designed in a container version and includes the battery set, power conversion system, control system, cooling system, fire-fighting system, lighting and auxiliary equipment.
We carried out all preparatory civil works and prepared the required electrical equipment for integration of BESS in the solar power plant. RUDIS developed and wrote the software for automated control and optimum management of BESS. The basic function of BESS is »energy arbitrage«, which generally means taking advantage of electricity price differences on electricity market. BESS enables energy storage when prices are low and selling stored electricity when market prices are high, which optimizes profitability of power plant's operation.
Besides the solar power plant Blate, RUDIS is developing a new location for solar power plant Unično 1, for which the Municipal spatial planning plan is in preparation. It is located near the regional center for waste management in Zasavje, on a sunny, but hidden location. Planned rating of the new solar power plant with retrofitted BESS is 1,5 MW(p).
